Where Does It Hurt?

Aching ankles, stiff neck and shoulders, that "trick knee" or persistent backache -- tell us where it hurts. Pain, stiffness, and loss of flexibility or mobility in the joints of the body can be traced to numerous causes. Some orthopaedic conditions can be treated with hot or cold compresses, therapeutic exercises or over the counter medication. Others require more extensive professional treatment. A detailed description of the symptoms is the first step toward diagnosis and treatment.

Place your cursor over the figure at the right in the approximate location in which you're experiencing symptoms. You'll see an enlarged graphic depicting that bone or joint. Click on the enlarged graphic for details about the possible causes and treatment of pain in that area. Tell us where it hurts, and we'll tell you how to heal.
